Rooted in Love. Growing with Communities.
On the world’s largest river island — Majuli — where floods are a part of life and resilience is second nature, a quiet revolution began with a single act of love. In 2017, a young IIT graduate, Bipin Dhane, and a small group of local educators built a bamboo classroom for children who had lost their schools to the rising Brahmaputra. That humble classroom became The Hummingbird School — a symbol of hope for families who had been displaced time and again. From that seed of hope grew Ayang Trust, a grassroots non-profit working across education, livelihoods, and community resilience in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Today, Ayang stands as a movement — uniting educators, artisans, and farmers who believe that love can rebuild everything.
“Ayang” means love in the language of the Mising tribe, and it captures everything we stand for. We work hand in hand with communities that live in constant negotiation with nature — people who have learned to rebuild after every flood, every storm, every loss.
Our mission is to ensure that children in these regions have access to quality education, that women find dignified means of livelihood, and that villages become models of sustainable, self-driven growth.
