OUR PROJECTS

Women Entrepreneurship Project

IMG_9138.JPG

Our Women Entrepreneurship Project is dedicated to empowering rural women by transforming traditional skills into sustainable livelihoods. This initiative focuses on enhancing the livelihood skills of rural women artisans in three core crafts: handloom textiles, bamboo crafts, and food processing—traditional practices deeply rooted in Northeast India. The program nurtures an entrepreneurial mindset and cultivates leadership qualities through: Extensive capacity-building programs to bridge skill gaps. Ongoing mentorship and support to foster confidence and independence. Market exposure to help participants understand and thrive in the modern marketplace. Additionally, the project equips women with essential production tools, connects them to financial resources, and establishes robust market linkages. By integrating these efforts, we aim to create sustainable livelihoods, promoting economic empowerment and self-reliance for rural women.

Through targeted training programs, access to essential resources, and strong market linkages, we empower these farmers to enhance agricultural productivity and adopt sustainable practices. By working collectively, they gain the knowledge, tools, and opportunities needed to improve their livelihoods and create a more resilient agricultural ecosystem.

Our Sustainable Agriculture Initiative is dedicated to enhancing livelihoods and preserving environmental health by promoting sustainable agricultural and forestry practices. The program focuses on developing diverse farming systems such as food farms and multilayer farming, using natural methods to enhance crop variety and ensure sustainability. It also aims to restore degraded lands, including those affected by monocropping and sheet erosion, bringing them back to productive use. To address water challenges, the initiative provides farmers with access to modern irrigation systems, optimizing water usage, improving crop yields, and building resilience to climate variability. Farmers are further empowered through extensive capacity-building programs, equipping them with essential knowledge in soil management, pest control, crop rotation, and organic farming techniques. By integrating these efforts, the initiative strengthens food security, improves agricultural productivity, and promotes environmentally friendly farming practices.

Sustainable Agriculture

Our program focuses on enhancing community resilience to natural disasters, particularly in flood-affected areas. Since 2022, we have been working in Majuli, implementing this project in 10 vulnerable villages. The initiative promotes access to safe spaces, clean water, sanitation, and hygiene during floods, ensuring the safety and well-being of affected communities. Through a multidimensional approach, the project engages communities over an extended period, building their capacity to manage and mitigate the impacts of floods. A decentralized flood control mechanism is developed, empowering villages to take proactive measures to reduce disaster risks. This comprehensive intervention aims to create long-term resilience and improve the quality of life for those most affected by recurring floods.

PROJECT LEKOPE
Building women producer collectives

WhatsApp Image 2022-11-11 at 11.08.06 AM.jpg

The program addresses the challenges faced by rural women in the Northeast. The communities primarily engage in agrarian practices for self-sustenance, mostly managed by women who possess unique traditional livelihood skills. Despite this, these communities remain in poverty and financial insecurity, with women largely unpaid for their labor. Patriarchal norms, early marriage, and limited educational opportunities further hinder women's empowerment and involvement in economic activities. Our program aims to empower these women by promoting entrepreneurship and supporting women's collectives. Through this, we seek to improve livelihoods, develop a support system for women producers, and mitigate financial instability.

So far we have 2 all-women FPOs in Majuli and East Kameng. Ayang Trust also promotes a mixed FPO driven by women leaders in Bana, East Kameng. About 3000 farmers receive support from the three FPOs developed.
