THE SEED PROJECT
The SEED (Seeding Enquiry, Empathy, and Dialogue) project is a transformative initiative by Ayang Trust, aimed at fostering a culture of reading and community engagement through literature. Launched in November 2021, the project began with 4 community libraries in Majuli, Assam, and has since expanded to 38 libraries by October 2024, benefiting over 10,000 children. Through its focus on inquiry, empathy, and dialogue, SEED nurtures critical thinking and emotional intelligence among young readers, contributing to the socio-economic growth of local communities.

Ayang Trust conceived the SEED project as a solution to the lack of access to quality literature in rural areas, particularly in remote and flood-affected villages of Majuli. The project aims to empower communities by creating community-led libraries where children and adults alike can access diverse forms of literature in Assamese, Mising, English, Hindi, and other regional languages. The goal is to cultivate a lifelong love for reading, enhance critical thinking, and promote cultural preservation and educational advancement.

The long-term vision is to transform these communities into reading hubs, making literacy and education central to their development. By emphasizing community ownership and leadership, Ayang Trust ensures the sustainability of the project, creating spaces were education flourishes organically.
